When I entered the job market in 1986, someone told me that there was no loyalty anymore because people “only” keep jobs for 5-10 years. And I get it, if you were from a generation who had jobs for life, that seemed short. The reality is that job tenure hasn’t changed all that much since then… but the way we—employers and employees—think about our roles sure has.  The “social experiment” that we’ve all been living through for the past three years WILL have a profound effect on reality, expectations, and outcome of our workforce.  Our jobs aren’t about making the best widgets… it’s about understanding how to create an organization comprised of PEOPLE who are willing and inspired to make them.  And most importantly, to talk honestly about satisfying the needs of everyone involved.
